03 — Before your visit

Preparing for your dental appointment

A little preparation makes your first dental appointment faster and easier. Please arrive about 15 minutes early so we can check you in, copy your insurance card and review your health history with you.

What to bring

• A photo ID
• Your dental insurance or Medicaid card
• A list of the medications and supplements you take
• Any recent dental X-rays, or the name of your previous dentist so we can request them
• For children: a parent or legal guardian must attend the first visit

Insurance, Medicaid and payment

We accept Florida Medicaid and most PPO and Medicare Advantage dental plans. When you book, give us your plan details and we’ll verify your benefits before you arrive, so you know what’s covered. If you don’t have insurance, ask about our $88 new patient special (comprehensive exam, full-mouth X-rays and a regular cleaning) and financing for larger treatment. See insurance & financing.

Emergency appointments

If you have severe tooth pain, swelling, a broken tooth or a knocked-out tooth, call (305) 705-2748 instead of using the form. We keep time open every weekday for emergencies and will tell you exactly when to come in. Emergency dental services.

What happens at your first visit

Your first dental appointment usually takes about an hour. We review your health history, take any X-rays you need, and the dentist does a full exam of your teeth, gums and bite, including an oral cancer screening. You’ll get a clear explanation of what we found and a written plan with costs. Most new patients also have their regular cleaning at this visit.

Need to reschedule?

Life happens. If you need to change or cancel your dental appointment, please call us at least 24 hours ahead so we can offer the time to another patient.
