01 — How it works

How Invisalign works

Invisalign uses a series of custom clear aligners. Each set moves your teeth a small amount; you switch to the next set on a schedule, and your teeth gradually shift into position. You wear the aligners most of the day and night — typically 20 to 22 hours — and take them out to eat and drink anything other than water.

Complex bite problems may be better treated with traditional braces by an orthodontist. At your consultation, Dr. B will tell you honestly whether aligners are a good fit and refer you if another approach would work better.

Teeth naturally try to drift back. Wearing a retainer as directed — usually every night — keeps your new smile in place.

Cost and financing

Invisalign for teens

Teens can use clear aligners too, as long as they’re ready to wear them consistently. Aligners are easier to keep clean than braces, and there are no brackets to break during sports. We’ll talk with you and your teen about whether aligners or braces make more sense.

What if you don’t wear your aligners enough?

Aligners only move teeth while they’re in your mouth. Wearing them less than about 20–22 hours a day slows treatment and can cause the next set not to fit, which may mean extra aligners and more time. Most patients find it becomes routine within a week or two.

Paying for Invisalign

Cost depends on how much movement you need and how long treatment takes. Some dental plans include orthodontic benefits that apply to clear aligners. Florida Medicaid generally doesn’t cover orthodontics for adults. We’ll give you a written estimate and monthly payment options at your consultation.
